Academician Mammad Salmanov is 85 years old
On January 12, a celebrate microbiologist –scientist with “Shohrat” order, director of the Institute of Microbiology of ANAS – Academician Mammad Salmanov is 85 years old.
Mammad Ahad oghlu Salmanov was born on 12 January 1932 - the Western Azerbaijan (Armenia SSR) Zangibasar region of Irevan (Masis), village of Garagishlag. In 1955, graduated from Azerbaijan Agriculture Institute (present AAI) with diploma of honors.
In 1982, gained degree of PhD, degree of Doctor of Science in 1987, and became a professor in 1996. In 2001, was elected a corresponding member of ANAS, active member of ANAS in 2007.
Firstly, scientist began to work a chief in a veterinary quarantine station at border Boyuk Bahamanli of Fizuli region. In 1955, a researcher at the Institute of Zoology, a researcher fellow in the laboratory of Hydrobiology at the Institute of Microbiology in 1972, the chief of the same laboratory in 1973, in 1999-2000 he worked as head of the department of Azerbaijan Medical University. Since 2002, he is the director of the Institute of Microbiology of ANAS.
Academician has been awarded “Shohrat” order in 2005 by the Presidential Order for his merits in Azerbaijan science.
Scientist’s researches cover water sources of Azerbaijan - the Kura and Araz rivers basin, lakes, reservoirs, mineral and thermal springs, as well as microbiology, biological productivity and environmental situation of the Caspian Sea. Creation of water microbiology of Azerbaijan is associated with his name.
Academician M.Salmanov is an author of over 300 scientific works, including a certificate and patent and 3 monographs.
Scientist supervised to 18 PhDs.
M.Salmanov is the chairman of Azerbaijan Microbiologists’ Society and Defense Council, , an editorial member of “News” journal of ANAS Division of Biological-Medical Sciences, a Azerbaijan National High technologies and Bioethics Committee, a member of UNESCO’s Azerbaijan National Committee, also operates as an expert of Azerbaijan State Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources.
