MSE Institute of Zoology hosted a commemorative event on the 34th anniversary of the "January 20" tragedy

On January 19, 2024, Institute of Zoology hosted for a commemorative event on the 34th anniversary of the "January 20" tragedy. The participants of the event commemorated the dear memory of the victims of the tragedy with a minute of silence.

The event was opened by the Acting Director of the institute, Executive Director, Dr. Associate Professor Elshad Ahmadov. In his speech, he said that the Bloody January tragedy was a day of national pride and sadness in the history of Azerbaijan, and that this tragedy entered the history of the struggle for freedom and territorial integrity of Azerbaijan as a heroic page. He noted that on January 20, 1990, the deployment of combat units of the Soviet army against the large masses of people who were enraged by the aggressive actions of Armenia, which made territorial claims against our country, patronaged by USSR, and came out to the streets and squares of Baku by expressing their strong opposition to it, was led to unprecedented tragedy in Azerbaijan. 

Later in the event, the Chairman of the first Party Organization of YAP Yasamal District "504th Block Area", Ph.D. Hafiz Mukhtarov, head of the Laboratory of Terrestrial Vertebrates, Ph.D. Tavakkul Iskandarov and Aynur Hajiaghayeva, a junior researcher at the Parasitology Laboratory, shared their bitter memories of this bloody history.
