Institute of Zoology hosted for the defense of the dissertation on PhD

On February 11, 2022, in the FD 1.09-Dissertation Council of the Institute of Zoology of ANAS, a junior researcher of the Center of Applied Zoology of the Institute Saliga Galib gizi Gazi run her defense of PhD dissertation entitled "Sugar beet pests in Azerbaijan (insects and butterflies), bioecological features of important species and the role of entomophagous in their biological regulation" on the specialty 2413.01- "Entomology". The supervisor of the dissertation is Ph.D in Biology, assoc.prof. Barat Abdul oglu Ahmadov, and the official opponents are Dr., assoc.prof. Nasib Jafargulu oglu Namazov, Dr. assoc.prof. Kazim Garakishi oglu Huseynov and Ph.D in Biology, assoc. prof. Sakina Ahmad gizi Hajiyeva.
Opening the event, Executive Director of the Institute of Zoology, Chairman of the Dissertation Council, Ph.D. Elshad Ahmadov gave the floor to the applicant to report. S. Gazi said that the main purpose of the research is to study the species composition of pests damaging plants in Imishli and Agdash regions, where sugar beet is grown, to identify the main pests that cause serious crop losses, to study their bioecological features, phenological calendar, to conduct more effective control measures both economic and environmental development.
For the first time in Azerbaijan, extensive research on sugar beet agrocenosis, bioecological characteristics, development dynamics and economic importance of species that cause various degrees of damage to plants have also been reflected in the research. In addition, the species composition of entomophages, playing a role in regulating the number of pests in the agrocenosis, have been identified, she noted.
At the end of the meeting, members of the Dissertation Council praised the research work, noting that the work meets the requirements of the Supreme Attestation Commission under the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
