Scientific Council of the Institute of Zoology held the next meeting

The next meeting of the Scientific Council of the Institute of Zoology of ANAS was held on November 17. At the meeting held in accordance with the rules of the quarantine regime, Acting Director of the institute, PhD in Agrarian Sciences, Associate Professor Aladdin Eyvazov informed the council members about the issues on the agenda. Then the floor was given to the head of the Protozoology Laboratory, corresponding member of ANAS Ilham Alakbarov to inform about the work done by the employees of the Laboratory of the institute this year.

Speaking about the activities of the laboratory, I. Alakbarov said that the main scientific direction of the laboratory this year was to study the fauna and ecology, biodiversity of primates in Azerbaijan, their role in natural food chains of aquatic and soil ecosystems and the importance of organic matter in production and destruction. In addition, delivering a lecture on "Biodiversity of free-living and parasitic primates on the shores of Azerbaijan in the Caspian Sea and biomonitoring of water quality of (2021-2023)", the scientist stated that employees have gathered materials of topic from 7 stationary points of Absheron shores of the Caspian Sea (Absheron National Park, Hovsan, Turkan Pirallahi - Dubandi - Shikh, Sangachal). Meanwhile, as a result of the expedition organized by the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources, benthos and plankton samples have been collected from various areas of the Caspian Sea and were handed over to the Protozoology Laboratory. As a result, 29 infusors belonging to 15 genera including different ecological groups in the coastal waters of Absheron (Trachelocercidae, Spirostomatidae, Condylostomatidae, Amphisiellidae, Oxytrichidae, Parameciidae, Prorodontidae, Metopidae, Stokesiidae, Uronematidae, Pleuronematidae, Euplotidae, Colepidae, Urostylidae, Tintinnoidea) have been registered.

Then, Deputy Director for Scientific Affairs, Doctor of Biological Sciences Elshad Ahmadov presented a brief report on the work done by the staff of the Laboratory of Biochemistry of Parasite-Owner Relations of the Institute of Zoology in 2021. In his report "Study of parasite-host relations during the associative invasion of blood parasites (Haemosporidia) and primary intestinal parasites (Apicomplexa), the scientist said that the main stage of the study in 2021 was the identification of fauna of blood and intestinal parasites in animals (cows) and study of some biochemical parameters (enzyme activity, total protein content, morphological parameters of the blood). Thus, fecal and blood samples from cows from different farms of Absheron region have been collected and processed in the laboratory in order to carry out experiments this year in accordance with the stages of the work.

Finally, both speakers responded the questions of the participants and the reports were considered advisable.
