Employees of the Institute of Zoology were on the expedition

The leading researcher of the Terrestrial Vertebrates Laboratory of the Institute of Zoology of ANAS, Ph.D. Tavakkul Isgandarov and a senior researcher, Ph.D. Gulbaniz Gasimova had an expedition in Lankaran and Lerik regions on August 25-29 to study herpetofauna. During the expedition, high mountainous areas, as well as waterfalls and river banks were inspected, and herpetological materials were collected in accordance with the research plan. Along with numerous species, new habitats of rare reptile species included in the "Red Book" of the Republic of Azerbaijan, such as Ablepharus bivittatus and Trapelus ruderatus, have been discovered in these areas. Ecological features of the species have been studied and biotopes have been described.
