Employees of the Hydrobiology Laboratory were on an expedition to the coastal areas of the Azerbaijani part of the Middle and South Caspian

Acting Head of Hydrobiology Laboratory of MSE Institute of Zoology, Associate professor Suleyman Suleymanov, a senior researcher Nuria Shamionova, the junior researchers - Nigar Mehdiyeva and Intizar Samadli went on an expedition to Gilezi, Sitalchay, Sumgayit areas of the Middle Caspian, and Bandovan and Alat areas of the South Caspian. During the expedition, taking place on 03.07 - 08.07.2023, monitoring works were carried out in the coastal waters of those areas and samples of ichthyological and biological cover were collected. The effects of the created ecological conditions on the species composition, number and distribution of ichthyofauna were studied. It has been determined that the condition of marine fish (herring, clupeonella and mullet) living in the Caspian Sea is satisfactory due to the changed ecological conditions in the Caspian Sea in recent years (declining sea level, exposure to heavy pollution, etc.), on the contrary, the condition of transient and semi-transitory fish (ordinary fish, cod, Caspian bream, eastern bream, and bream) is not satisfactory. Initially, it was reported that due to the lowering of the sea level, there have been some changes in the distribution range of transient and semi-transient fish.
