Completed an online conference on "Karabakh's biodiversity, soil and water resources: past, present, and future"

The closing ceremony of the online conference on "Biodiversity of Karabakh, soil and water resources: past, present, and future" was held at ANAS on May 21.
In advance, vice-president of ANAS, academician Irada Huseynova provided general information about the results of the conference.
Speaking at the closing ceremony, ANAS vice-president, Academician Isa Habibbayli noted that the conference organized by the Department of Biological and Medical Sciences of the Academy is one of the large-scale projects supporting the "Return to Karabakh" program established under the instructions of President Ilham Aliyev. He added that in connection with this program, ANAS conducts research covering the entire territory of Karabakh in several areas.
"I believe that this conference, dedicated to the biodiversity of Karabakh, soil and water resources, is the beginning of research on Karabakh," said Habibbayli, notifying the scientific-practical significance of the event, as well as its political significance.
The vice-president expressed confidence that ANAS will achieve the solution of multidisciplinary scientific problems related to Karabakh, speaking from the same position as the relevant agencies of the country.
Deputy Minister of Agriculture of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Doctor of Economics, Professor Elchin Zeynalov stressed that the topics presented at the conference will become research topics for scientists in the future. Speaking about the importance of holding such conferences, Zeynalov said that the multidisciplinary research conducted by the ministry and the academy on the liberated territories will support the development of agriculture, agrarian, and other areas in these areas.
Then the Deputy Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Azerbaijan, leading researcher of the Institute of Botany of ANAS, Ph.D. in Biology, Associate Professor Vugar Karimov has reported. He thanked ANAS, especially the Department of Biological and Medical Sciences, for the event organized at a high level. Karimov noted that the ministry would continue joint research with ANAS on many areas, including our liberated territories.
The event was also attended by the Director-General of the Hydromechanics and Amelioration Scientific-Production Union of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Doctor of Agrarian Sciences, Professor Aghamir Hashimov, Adviser to the Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Ph.D. in physics-mathematics Javid Abdullayev, Director of the Institute of Botany of ANAS, Academician Valida Alizadeh, ANAS corresponding members of Vagif Novruzov, Saleh Maharramov, Novruz Guliyev and Alovsat Guliyev.
At the closing of the conference, including the director of the Institute of Zoology, Ph.D. in Agrarian Sciences Assoc. Prof. Aladdin Eyvazov, Director of the Institute of Physiology, Prof. Ulduz Hashimova, Dr. Biology, Assoc. Prof. Konul Bakhshaliyeva, Ph.D. in Biology, Assoc. Prof. Vali Garayev, Dr. Biology, Assoc. Prof. Vahid Farzaliyev, Ph.D. in Biology, Assoc. Prof. Zaman Mammadov, Head of the Department of International Scientific Cooperation of the Presidium of ANAS, Ph.D. in Biology, Assoc. Prof. Esmira Alizayeva, as well as Professor of Macquarie University of Australia Aliakbar Rasouli and others highly praised the work of the conference. It was noted that the views and proposals voiced at the event would contribute to the definition of activities related to Karabakh.
Summing up the conference, the vice-president of ANAS, academician Irada Huseynova expressed her gratitude to the Commander-in-Chief Ilham Aliyev for the liberation of Karabakh, as well as the creation of opportunities for re-exploration of these territories.
According to Irada Huseynova, within 2 days, 16 plenaries, 46 section lectures have listened, 118 theses were submitted for parallel sections of "The fauna, gerontological research, and ecotourism in Karabakh", "The soil and water resources, green economy of Karabakh", "The natural flora, vegetation, forest and pasture ecosystems of Karabakh" and "The genetic resources and food security of Karabakh".
Noting the importance of the event in terms of exchange of scientific views, the vice-president of ANAS stressed the need to develop scientific programs on the liberated territories, to restore the Karabakh Scientific Research Base of the Institute of Genetic Resources in Aghdara region, destroyed by Armenians. The academician noted that the conference raised serious issues for Azerbaijani scientists and revealed the importance of conducting research in these areas to restore our natural monuments, reserves, and sanctuaries, as well as agriculture.
At the end of her speech, academician Irada Huseynova wished the conference participants success in their activities. Expressing confidence in the success of comprehensive multidisciplinary research on the Karabakh region, the scientist stated her ensure for holding the next, more prestigious, international conference to be held in Shusha, overcoming the pandemic.
Finally, on behalf of the conference participants, an appeal was addressed to President Ilham Aliyev, reflecting the views of Azerbaijani scientists on our great victory in Karabakh and the resumption of scientific research in the liberated territories.
