The main purpose of the establishment of the Paleozoology laboratory at the Institute of Zoology of ANAS is the relevance of paleontological research in modern world science, the richness of the territory of Azerbaijan with paleontological remains, coordination of such research and collection materials in ANAS and other scientific-educational centers. The unique geological history, unique relief, and climatic conditions of the territory of Azerbaijan have caused the area rich in paleontological remains. There are several rare and very valuable paleozoological natural monuments in our country, such as "Qatar Fauna", "Binagadi Fauna", "Pirakashkul Fauna". Our prominent paleontologists have made great contributions to world science with their research.

• Study of paleontological remains found in the territory of Azerbaijan, a study of the history of the formation of fauna diversity of modern ecosystems based on this information;

• Study of changes in the species composition of the Azerbaijani fauna;

• Paleoecology and evolutionary ecology;

• Research of regularities of innovation processes;
