Scientific seminar in the subject of the “The possibility of the usage of the larva biotherapy (Diptera, Lucilia sericata) in the system of medicine in our republic” was held in the Institute of Zoology of the National Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan

The researcherof the “The introduction of useful insects and the scientific bases of the biological control” laboratory Gulnaz Ismayilova has made a speech in the subject of the “The possibility of the usage of the larva biotherapy (Diptera, Lucilia sericata) in the system of medicine in our republic” in the Institute of Zoology of the National Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan.

 

Scientific seminar has been devoted to the usage of the medical field biotherapy in the cure of the people being ill in the world medicine system.

Let us note that, when biotherapy said, it is intended cure with leech, with bee sting, with larvas of the Luscinia sericata housefly and with other biological objects. Luscilia sericata-green housefly carrion belong to the Calliphoriadae family of the Diptera bunch, mostly it has spread in the mild and tropical zones.  Larvas of the Luscilia sericatahouseflies brought up in the sterile condition are used in the medicine and this method of treatment is called the "maggot debridement therapy (MDT)", "maggot therapy", "larval therapy", "biodebridement" in literature.

Larvas of the increasing Luscilia sericatahouseflies in the sterile condition are allowed putting to the wound during the operation and they necrotomy only feeding  non-viable tissues.

As a result of larval therapy pathogen bacteria, golden stafilokok,  group A and group B streptococci, part positive aerobic and anaerobic bacteria are destroyed, they have been late development.During the feeding larvas secreting proteolytic enzymes, antibacterial substances accelerating the formation of granulation tissue, often cause closure and healing of problematic wounds.

This method is effective and safe for the patient and economically profitable.

Using larval therapy reduces the need of  the antibiotics of the people.

Currently, more than 4,000 doctors in 40 countries are engaged in treatment of  larval therapy.Larval therapy  is used in humans and animals heal soft tissue wounds, skin necrosis, skin transfer, bed sores, venous stagnation wounds, heel neuropathic ulcers, diabetic wounds, the cleaning of  the necrotic tissue of the  traumatic and postoperative wounds.

So Larval therapy is widely used in countries with advanced health systems, this treatment method has not been used so far in our republic.

Gulnaz Ismayilova, also informed that the most economically advantageous of larval therapy the development of the usage with medical purposes  in the Azerbaijan conditions is expedient. In the end, there was an exchange of views on the report, the questions were answered.
