The junior researcher of the Applied Zoology Center was on a scientific mission in Turkey

Rafiqa Gazi, a junior researcher of the Applied Zoology Center of MSERA Institute of Zoology was on a scientific mission to the Samsun Veterinary Control Institute located in Turkey, October 2-6, 2023. Molecular analysis of honey bee samples collected in spring and autumn from regions of Guba-Khachmaz (Guba, Gusar, Khachmaz, Shabran and Siyazan) and Lankaran-Astara economic regions of Azerbaijan (Astara, Lankaran, Lerik, Masalli, Yardimli and Jalilabad) was carried out. 9 types of viruses (AmFv, ABPV, CBPV, IAPV, SBV, BQCV, VDV-1, DWV and KBV) were examined and 5 types of viruses (AmFv, ABPV, SBV, BQCV, VDV-1) were detected. Among these viruses, AmFv, SBV, BQCV, VDV-1 viruses were previously discovered in Gabala region of the Greater Caucasus region of Azerbaijan. However, these viruses were identified for the first time in the northeastern and southeastern regions, and meanwhile, ABPV was detected at the molecular level for the first time in Azerbaijan.

Note that the mass bee deaths have been observed in apiaries recently, and one of the main reasons for this can be viral diseases, especially ABPV.
