Institute of Zoology held a commemorative event on the 31st anniversary of the "Khojaly Genocide"

On February 24, 2023, an event dedicated to the anniversary of the Khojaly genocide was held at the Institute of Zoology of ANAS. The event began with a silent commemoration of the Khojaly genocide victims.

Acting Director of the Institute, Associate Professor Aladdin Eyvazov, who spoke at the event, provided detailed information about the Khojaly genocide, and stressed out that, on the night of February 25-26, 1992, Armenian armed forces with the help of the 366th motorized rifle regiment of the Soviet army of Azerbaijan invaded the city of Khojaly and killed a large number of civilians, mainly children and women.

A. Eyvazov, talking about the atrocities committed against our people by the armed forces of Armenia, brought to the attention of the event participants that our compatriots were killed with special ruthlessness and cruelty, and that the captured people were subjected to terrible torture, oppression and insults. A. Eyvazov, noted that a number of calamities befell our nation after the Khojaly tragedy, that such massacres were prevented after Great Leader Heydar Aliyev's coming to power in 1993.

He said that despite the numerous massacres committed against our people in the early 90s of the last century, the people of Azerbaijan always believed that our occupied lands would be liberated. Later, he talked about the heroism of the Azerbaijani army in the 44-day Patriotic War, and the growing reputation of Azerbaijan in the world after the war. In his speech, he highlighted the importance of not forgetting the events in the blood memory of our people and passing them on to future generations.

Later, the head of the Center of Applied Zoology, Associate Professor Barat Ahmadov and a junior researcher of the Hydrobiology Laboratory Nigar Mehdiyeva reported at the event.

Finally, a video depicting the Khojaly genocide prepared by the Public Relations Department of the Institute was displayed.
