Institute of Bioresources started expeditions to study the distribution area and the way of life of leopards in Nakhchivan

Employees of the Institute of Bioresources of ANAS Nakhchivan Division started a scientific expedition.

The goal is to study materials concerning the flora and fauna, as well as useful plants of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic.

According to Director of the institute, Academician Tariel Talibov, leopards along with other animal lives in Sharur, Shahbuz, Ordubad and other mountainous territories of the autonomous republic.

It was noted that, photos and videos by camera traps acquired from World Wide Fund for protection, have led to the prohibition of hunting in the NAR since 2001, as well as intensive habitat of these animals in the region.

Academician noted that, during the expeditions the habitat and lifestyle of leopards will be studied, as well as the study of poisonous snakes.
