Academician Maharram Babayev is 80 years old
Today, a notable soil scientist, a lab chief of the Institute of Soil Science and Agrochemistry – Academician Maharram Babayev is 80 years old.
Maharram Pirverdi oghlu Babayev was born on January 13, 1937 in Barda city. In 1961, after graduating Azerbaijan Agriculture Institute department of agronomy, he was sent to the Institute of Soil Science and Agrochemistry of Azerbaijan Academy of Sciences.
Academician M.Babayev defended PhD in 1966, and doctoral in 1981, deserved to the title of professor in 2000. In 2001, was elected a corresponding member of ANAS an active member in 2014.
In 1961-1975, he was a researcher, senior researcher at the Institute of Soil Science and Agricultural Chemistry, 1975-1981 a head of the Laboratory of the same University, 1981-1985, a director of the Institute of Horticulture, Ministry of Economy, in 1986-1989, a Deputy Chairman of the Agrarian Industry Committee. Since 1995 he worked as head of the Laboratory of Genesis, Geography and Cartography of the Institute of Soil Science and Agricultural Chemistry of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences, in 2001-2014 - a director of the Institute.
The scientific activity of the scientist associated with the genesis, evolution, morphogenetic diagnostics, nomenclature, classification and mapping of soils of Azerbaijan, creation of soil-geographic data base of anthropogenic soils.
Academician is the author of over 300 scientific papers, 10 books, 28 maps and 11 patents. He supervised to18 PhDs and 4 - Doctor of Sciences.
M.Babayev is a member of the World Society of Soil Science, a member of the Bureau of the Department of Biological and Medical Sciences, chairman of Specialized Council on doctoral theses D-004.16.01 at the Institute of Soil Science and Agricultural Chemistry of ANAS.
The merits of the scientist are also highly appreciated by the state. In 1986 he was awarded the Order "Badge of Honor", 1987 - Diploma of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of Azerbaijan SSR (1997) and awarded the Diploma of ANAS in 2006.
