Institute scientists conducted a field expedition in Guba and Khachmaz districts

From 25 to 31 August 2026, scientists from the Living Systems Research Institute, Ministry of Science and Education of the Republic of Azerbaijan, participated in a field expedition in Guba and Khachmaz districts. The expedition involved Elyana Tahirova, head of the Laboratory of Modern Microscopy and Imaging, Associate Professor, PhD in Biology, and Turkan Gurbanova, head of the Laboratory of Molecular Analysis, Associate Professor, PhD in Biology.

The objective of the expedition was determining the genetic structure and level of biodiversity in the surveyed areas, investigating the distribution ranges of selected invertebrate and vertebrate species belonging to various taxonomic groups for the establishment of a biodiversity database, and conducting their accurate taxonomic identification.

The field studies covered various villages in Guba and Khachmaz districts. As part of the expedition, biological material was collected from both terrestrial ecosystems and a variety of aquatic environments, including lakes, rivers, oxbow lakes, canals, and other water bodies.

The collected material was fixed in accordance with the relevant methodological requirements and transported to the Institute’s respective laboratories for subsequent molecular and microscopic analyses.
