Employees of the Institute of Zoology visited the Martyrs’ Avenue on the occasion of the 36th anniversary of the January 20 tragedy

On January 19, 2026, employees of the Institute of Zoology visited the Martyrs’ Avenue in connection with the 36th anniversary of the January 20 tragedy.

It should be noted that on January 20, 1990, as a result of the deployment of the Soviet army to Baku, numerous civilians were killed and injured during the military operation carried out against peaceful people. This event went down in history as a turning point in the Azerbaijani people’s struggle for freedom and independence. The January 20 tragedy is regarded in Azerbaijani history both as a great tragedy and a day of national pride. The memory of the martyrs who lost their lives that night is always respectfully commemorated by our state and people, and the heroism they displayed is presented as an example of patriotism to future generations.

During the visit, wreaths were laid at the graves of the January 20 martyrs, and the cherished memory of those who gave their lives for the freedom and independence of the Azerbaijani people was honored with deep respect.
