The employee of the Institute of Zoology gave an interview to Oxu.az

Elshad Asgarov, a researcher at the Laboratory of Terrestrial Vertebrates of the Institute of Zoology, gave an interview to Oxu.az.

According to Asgarov, recently new dog breeds have emerged that resemble wolves:  Since the second half of the last century, new dog breeds have appeared. They resemble wolves. The Russians call them 'volkasob' (a mix of wolf and dog). For example, in the Czech Republic, there are such dogs that look like wolves. If you don't have a specialist's eye, you can't tell they're dogs. The dog curls its tail, and its forehead is wider than that of a wolf. This can only be observed by a specialist. Even a villager who has seen wolves sometimes can't distinguish between these two animals.”   He also mentioned that wolves used to come to Baku: The areas around Baku are semi-desert. This area used to be a habitat for wolves. In the early 20th century, wolves used to come to Baku through the current Wolf Gate. That's why the area is still called 'Qurd Qapısı' (Wolf Gate).”
