The opening ceremony of the international scientific-practical conference on "Disturbances in the functioning of ecosystems due to global climate changes and ways to eliminate them" was held

On June 11, 2024, the opening ceremony of the international scientific-practical conference (hybrid form) entitled "Disturbances in the functioning of ecosystems due to global climate changes and ways to eliminate them" with the joint organization of the Ministry of Science and Education of the Republic of Azerbaijan, the Institute of Zoology and the Azerbaijan Representation of the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) dedicated to the organizing the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change - (COP29), the 19th session of the Meeting of the Parties to the Kyoto Protocol and  the 6th session of the Paris Agreement Meeting of the Parties was held in the Central Scientific Library of ANAS. Before the opening, an exhibition consisting of book and animal exhibits was demonstrated. Later, the National Anthem of the Republic of Azerbaijan was played at the event.

In his introduction to the conference, General Director of the MSE RA Institute of Zoology, Associate professor Aladdin Eyvazov stated that 41 reports and 51 posters were presented at the conference from 18 domestic and 4 foreign institutions. He stated that the conference, which will continue in 3 sections, was held in connection with the implementation of the Decree of the head of the country "On declaring 2024 as the "Year of Solidarity for the Green World" in the Republic of Azerbaijan." A. Eyvazov also drew attention to the fact that the aforementioned Order once again proves that Azerbaijan is among the first countries to join global initiatives, and on the other hand, it is a call to expand our activities in this field in 2024 and significantly to intensify the work to be done in the direction of environmental protection. A. Eyvazov emphasized that one of the five national priorities for socio-economic development of Azerbaijan until 2030 is defined as "Country of clean environment and green growth" in the Order. In accordance with that priority, work is being done to improve the environment, restore and increase greenery, and ensure efficient use of water resources and sustainable energy sources. The use of the newest technologies for environmental protection in the industrialization projects implemented in our country in the last 20 years, the implementation of separate state programs to ensure environmental health in the country, and the wide space for the production and use of green energy are confirmations of the priority approach to environmental problems at the state level. Projects such as protection of the country's flora and fauna, environmental education in the public mind, and promotion of greening are continuously supported by the state. Currently, meeting the planet's energy needs without harming the environment is one of the most urgent issues against the background of climate change. For this reason, the countries of the world are fighting against the reduction of carbon emissions, preferring energy obtained from inexhaustible sources. The transition to "green energy" involves the replacement of traditional energy resources with renewable energy sources by applying modern technologies. The rapid development of technology and the goals set by the countries of the world in this direction accelerate the "green energy" transition.

Later, at the event, Vice President of ANAS, General Director of Institute of Molecular Biology and Biotechnologies of MSE RA, Academician Irada Huseynova (via Zoom platform), Deputy Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Azerbaijan Vugar Karimov, General Director of Institute of Microbiology of MSE RA, corresponding member of ANAS Panah Muradov, director of the Scientific Research Institute of Plant Protection and Technical Plants of the MSE RA, corresponding member of ANAS Ibrahim Jafarov, including foreign guests via the Zoom platform - professor of the Faculty of Aquatic Products of the Euphrates University of Turkey, Doctor of biological sciences Naim Saghlam,  director of the Institute of Zoology of Russian Academy of Sciences, RAS corresponding member Nikita Chernetsov, Professor of Kharkiv National University named after V.N.
