For the first time in Azerbaijan, determination of viral diseases of bees was carried out at the molecular level

Rafiga Gazi, a junior researcher of ANAS Institute of Zoology Center of Applied Zoology, was on an international business trip on 05.09- 09.09.2022 in Samsun Veterinary Control Institute located in Samsun, Turkey.

During the visit, PCR (Polymerase Chain Reaction) analysis of honey bee samples taken from the bee farm located in Gabala region of Azerbaijan was conducted.

As a result of the analysis, for the first time in Azerbaijan, Varroa destructor virus-1 virus, Israeli bee paralysis virus, sacbrood virus (Bag brood rot virus), black queen bee virus, deformation virus were defined at the molecular level, meanwhile, the nosema ceranae, a fungal disease, was detected. It should be noted that Israeli bee paralysis virus and Varroa destructor virus-1 are dangerous for bees and cause massive bee deaths in bees. As a result of the experiment, the natural food supplements applied by the young scientist against the listed diseases had a positive effect and eliminated the disease.
