Institute of Zoology held a preliminary discussion of the doctoral dissertation

On May 12, 2022, the leading researcher of the Parasitology Laboratory of the Institute of Zoology of ANAS, Ph.D. Reyhan Ibrahimova's doctoral dissertation on "Major helminthic pathogens of canidae and felidae in Azerbaijan, mapping of parasitic foci, preparation of control measures" was held.
The scientific supervisor of the dissertation is the head of the Laboratory of Parasitology of the Institute of Zoology of ANAS, Doctor of Biological Sciences, Associate Professor Gara Fataliyev.
The lecturer said that the research covers 4 natural regions that differ sharply in bioecological features (Greater Caucasus, Lesser Caucasus, Kura Basin and Lankaran natural region). Although the prevalence and intensity of helminth infections in nearby areas are close, the prevalence of helminths in large areas is very different. For this purpose, the different distribution of helminths among domestic animals and cats in different natural regions, the reasons for differences and similarities were compared, the causes of differences and similarities were identified during the comparative analysis of helminths in different areas. R. Ibrahimova noted that this is primarily due to the bioecological features of the area - the density of animals, the distribution of intermediate hosts that make up their food, parasitic-hostile relations, environmental factors necessary for the development and invasiveness of helminth eggs and larvae, on the other hand. also depends on the forms of social, urbanization and in some places the impact of anthropogenic factors on the structure of landscapes.
After extensive discussions, the dissertation on "Major helminthic pathogens of canidae and felidae in Azerbaijan, mapping of parasitic foci, preparation of control measures" in specialty 2429.01 - "Parasitology” was considered expedient to submit to the next stage of scientific discussions, as it meets the requirements of the doctoral dissertations for the degree of Doctor of Biological Sciences put by Supreme Attestation Commission under President of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
