A young scientist from the Institute of Zoology participated in the implementation of an international project

Sevinj Rajabova, a researcher of the “Terresterial Vertebrates” Laboratory of the Institute of Zoology of ANAS, as an expert ornithologist and Arzu Mammadov, a leading researcher of the “Zoological Research” Department of the Institute of Bioresources of the Nakhchivan Branch of ANAS, as an ecologist from January 31, 2022 to February 22, 2022 successfully completed an international project called “Bird Monitoring around the Sangachal Terminal” commissioned by BP Co. During the ornithological monitoring, materials were collected around the Sangachal terminal and the report was submitted to BP. During the study, 55 bird species were recorded. Aegypius monachus, Bucanetes githagineus, Gallinago gallinago, and Phoenicurus ochruros were the first recorded species in the study site. Of the species recorded during ornithological monitoring, Gyps fulvus (White-tailed deer), Haliaeetus albicilla (White-tailed sea eagle) and Pandion haliaetus (Black-tailed Blackbird) were included only in the second edition of the Red Data Book of Azerbaijan, Aythya ferina (Redhead diver) is included in the IUCN Red List of the Union for Conservation of Nature, while Aegypius monachus and Circus macrourus are included both the second edition of the Red Data Book of Azerbaijan and the Red List of the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN Red List). Binoculars, telescopes, cameras and detectors were used  during researching.
