The defense of the Ph.D. dissertation on topic "Modern herpetofauna of the urbanized areas of the Absheron Peninsula"

On December 10, 2021, FD 1.09-Dissertation Council attached to the Institute of Zoology of ANAS hosted for the PhD dissertation defense of the Aysel Rafig gizi Hashimova, a dissertator of the Department of Medical Biology and Genetics of Azerbaijan Medical University, for the degree of Ph.D. in Biology on the specialty 2401.01 - "Zoology" on topic "Modern herpetofauna of the urbanized areas of the Absheron Peninsula".
The scientific supervisor of the dissertation is Professor of the Department of Zoology and Physiology of Baku State University, Doctor of Biological Sciences Janbakhish Najafov, and the official opponents are Doctor of Biological Sciences, Associate Professor Giyas Guliyev, Doctor of Biological Sciences, Associate Professor Namig Mustafayev, Doctor of Biological Sciences, Associate Professor Rafig Huseynov.
Opening the event, Executive Director of the Institute of Zoology, Chairman of the Dissertation Council, Doctor of Biological Sciences Elshad Ahmadov said that 17 scientific works were published based on the results of research, 6 of which were published abroad.
Providing detailed information about the dissertation, the applicant Aysel Hashimova spoke about the current state of the herpetofauna of the Absheron Peninsula, the impact of urbanization on the population density of reptile species, the degree of anthropogenic adaptation of reptiles, the importance of protecting reptile diversity. For the first time, the researcher determined the amount of heavy metals that have a toxic effect on the bone and muscle tissue of reptile species that form the background.
At the end of the meeting, members of the Dissertation Council highly praised the research work, noting that the work meets the requirements of the Supreme Attestation Commission under the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan for dissertations.
