The next meeting of the Scientific Council of the Institute of Zoology was held

On November 19, the next reports for the current year were listened in the Scientific Council of the Institute of Zoology of ANAS. The meeting, taking place on the Zoom platform, was opened by the Acting Director of the institute, PhD in Agrarian Sciences, Associate Professor Aladdin Eyvazov, who informed the members of the council about the issues on the agenda.


In advance, the report of the head of the laboratory, Dr. Biology Gulzar Mustafayeva was heard due to give general information about the research work carried out by the staff of the Terrestrial Invertebrates Laboratory of the institute, the results obtained and the published articles this year. As a result of the research, the scientist spoke about the species mentioned for the first time for the fauna of Azerbaijan, the state of the collection fund and scientific relations, and provided detailed information about the activities of the laboratory.


Afterwards, the head of the Terrestrial Vertebrates Laboratory, Dr. Biology Giyas Guliyev's annual report for 2021 was listened. As an important result, Giyas Guliyev has described the Nikolsky shield (Gloydius caucasicus Nikolsky, 1906) and the Talish mole (Talpa talyschensis Vereschagen, 1945) in the Lankaran region as the species of narrow and small range, meanwhile, Circus pygargus and Circus cyaneus species are expedient to include in the third edition of the Azerbaijan Red Book, taking into account their strong limit factors (expansion of tourism and recreation centers).


Finally, the director of the Zoological Museum, PhD in Biology Sabina Bunyatova delivered a report on the museum's activities, noting her expeditions to collect information for the next edition of the Red Book, the inventory of entomology collection materials and the total number of visitors to the Zoological Museum.
At the end of the meeting, all questions were responded by the speakers and the reports were considered advisable.
