Employees of the Institute of Zoology visited the expedition in Lankaran natural region

Senior researcher of the Terrestrial Vertebrates Laboratory of the Institute of Zoology of ANAS, Ph.D. in Biology Gulbaniz Gasimova and Director of the Zoological Museum, Ph.D. in Biology Sabina Bunyatova visited Lankaran and Yardimli regions, as well as surrounding areas on May 17-24 to study herpetofauna. During the expedition, field research was conducted in accordance with the research plan. Along with numerous species, the researchers discovered new distribution areas of Talysh terrestrial frog (Bufo eichwaldi), Karelian triton (Triturus karelinii), stripy naked eye (Ablepharus bivittatus), which are included in the "Red Book" of the Republic of Azerbaijan. The reproductive characteristics of the species were studied, their biotopes were described, and their protection status in accordance with international categories and criteria was determined. Noted that the field research is being carried out by the staff.
