An employee of the Institute of Zoology participated in monitoring in the Caspian Sea

The expedition group consisting of specialists from the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences, and SOCAR have carried out complex research and monitorings by the research vessel of the ministry “Alif Hajiyev” to determine the impact of oil and gas fields operating in the Azerbaijani sector of the Caspian Sea on the Caspian Sea and the environment, to study the hydrological and hydrochemical condition of the sea, biological resources, including to obtain the necessary information to assess the current ecological situation, from March 31 to April 9, 2021.


Suleyman Suleymanov, a leading researcher of the Hydrobiology Laboratory of the Institute of Zoology of ANAS, Ph.D. in Biological Sciences, Associate Professor has participated in the expedition as well. As part of the monitoring, in order to study the state of fish stocks, fishing tests were organized on the research vessel "Alif Hajiyev" with a trawler with a length of 24.7 m. In this regard, on April 4, 2021, trawling was carried out at a depth of 10-12 m in the coastal waters of the Neftchala region of Azerbaijan (Salyan raid) in the Azerbaijani part of the South Caspian Sea. In order to investigate the fish stocks in the Caspian Sea, it is considered expedient to organize fishing in the summer (July-August).
