Institute of Zoology hosted a commemorative event on the "Tragedy of the XX century" dedicated to the Khojaly genocide

A commemorative event on "Tragedy of the XX century" dedicated to the Khojaly genocide was carried out at the Institute of Zoology of ANAS. In advance, the memory of the genocide victims was commemorated with a minute of silence.

Then, the event was opened by the Acting Director of the institute, Ph.D. in Agrarian Sciences, Associate Professor Aladdin Eyvazov. He stated that, despite the fact that 29 years have passed since the tragedy, it is still an indelible wound in the memory of the nation. On that night, 613 people were brutally killed, 1275 civilian populations were taken hostage, and 150 were missing, he stressed out.

Elshad Ahmadov, Deputy Director for Science of the Institute, Doctor of Biological Sciences, Associate Professor, said that the main task facing our people is to inform the world community and the public of the atrocities committed by Armenians in Nagorno-Karabakh as a real act of genocide.

Tavakkul Isgandarov, a leading researcher of the Terrestrial Vertebrates Laboratory of the Institute, Ph.D. in Biology, Associate Professor, spoke about the insidious plans of the hated enemy, who used the unprotected release of Khojaly by the country's leadership at that time.

Shukur Guliyev, a leading researcher of the Hydrobiology Laboratory of the Institute, Ph.D. in Biology, Associate Professor, underlined that the Khojaly genocide, one of the most terrible and tragic pages in the history of Azerbaijan, was a crime committed against all humankind.

Sevinj Rajabova, a researcher at the Institute's Terrestrial Vertebrates Laboratory, noted that the revenge of our martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the Motherland was taken, so that, under the guidance of Supreme-Commander-in-Chief Ilham Aliyev and the invisibility of our national army, our ancestral lands have been liberated and historical justice was reinstated.

The event ended with a screening of the video "Khojaly genocide - a crime against humanity."
