Institute of Zoology hosted an event dedicated to the International Day of Women and Girls in Science

An online event dedicated to the International Day of Women and Girls in Science was organized by the Institute of Zoology of ANAS on February 12. Opening the meeting with the participation of the staff of the Institute, Acting Director of the Institute, Ph.D. in Agrarian Sciences, Associate Professor Aladdin Eyvazov said that today positive steps should be taken in the process of involving women and girls in scientific research, ensuring gender equality in science, technology, and innovation. He spoke about our women scientists, who left important traces in science and signed the first ones. He noted that 60% of the staff of the Institute of Zoology are women, and 65 out of 94 scientists are women. Then the floor was given to the scientific secretary of the institute, Ph.D. in Biology, Associate Professor Sara Aliyeva. She spoke about the fact that throughout history, Azerbaijani women have fought alongside men for the protection and strengthening of the inviolability of our lands, our religion, traditions, culture, as well as our statehood. Gulzar Mustafayeva, head of the Terrestrial Invertebrates Laboratory, Doctor of Biological Sciences, Associate Professor, said that historically, the issue of gender equality was at the center of attention in our country, and women were given the right to vote for the first time in the East during the Azerbaijan People Republic. Emphasizing that women scientists will be more optimistic about the present and future, Reyhan Ibrahimova, a leading researcher at the Parasitology Laboratory, Ph.D. in Biology, Associate Professor, stated about our outstanding women scientists who have left their mark on the Institute of Zoology. Gulbaniz Gasimova, a senior researcher at the Terrestrial Vertebrate Laboratory, Ph.D. in Biology, spoke about the achievements of women in science despite their family worries. Senior researcher of the Laboratory of Hydrobiology, Ph.D. in Biology Konul Tapdigova noted the growing role of women in society and made a speech on the effective use of opportunities created both historically and now for the benefit of the people, state and society.

International scholarship programs increase financial support, especially for women, in science, technology, engineering, mathematics, and in more realms, stated Elyana Tahirova, Acting Head of the International Relations Department, and provided detailed information on how she was motivated by sustained in such areas. Then, head of the Parasitology Laboratory, Associate Professor, Doctor of Biological sciences Gara Fataliyev congratulated the female employees, emphasizing that Azerbaijani women have always glorified the name of our people with their intelligence, wisdom, loyalty, and high motherhood.

The event ended with a video screening of female zoologists who have made unprecedented contributions to the science of zoology. Acting Director of the Institute Aladdin Eyvazov concluded the event by congratulating all women participants on the occasion of the International Day of Women and Girls in Science.
