An event titled "Women in Science in Azerbaijan" at ANAS

An event titled "Women in Science in Azerbaijan" was held at the Central Scientific Library (CSL) organized by the Women's Council of ANAS on 11 February - International Day of Women and Girls in Science.

Academician-Secretary of the Division of Social Sciences, Academician Nargiz Akhundova, Chairman of the Free Trade Union, Doctor of Law, Professor Habil Gurbanov, director of CSL, PhD in Medicine Leyla Imanova, Chairman of Women Council of ANAS, Doctor of Philosophy Rena Mirzazade, as well as chairmen and members of women's councils of scientific institutions and organizations attended the event.

Opening the meeting, academician Nargiz Akhundova said that, gender equality is in special attention in our country, for the first time in East Azerbaijan, the right to vote is given to women. Women are actively involved in the social life of the republic, including the activities of ANAS, as well as scientific and technological innovations, she said.

Then the chairman of the board, Rena Mirzazade, emphasized that this remarkable day was celebrated all over the world with a resolution adopted by the UN General Assembly on December 22, 2015. The resolution was adopted to ensure full and equal access to education for women, as well as to ensure gender equality and to expand their rights and opportunities, she noted.

Professor Habil Gurbanov, head of the department at the Philosophy Institute, Rafiga Azimova and others said that 70 percent of the ANAS employees are women and touched the importance of educating youngs in dignity and patriotism.

Later, Mahrukh Najafli, Head of the Sociological Group of the Women's Council of ANAS, Head of Department of Science and spirituality Ziba Aghayeva and Ilhama Gasabova made lectures.
