The next meeting of the Dissertation Council of the Institute of Zoology has been held

The next meeting of the D01071 Dissertation Council of the Institute operating under the Institute has been held. Junior scientific worker of the Institute of Zoology of the Laboratory Herpetology, Nizami Anvar Novruzov's dissertation defence for the degree of PhD in Biology on "Morphoecological and biological features of the eastern part of the arid land tortoise (reptiles, Testudines)" has been held. Scientific supervisor of this work is the corresponding member of ANAS, I.Kh.Alakbarov.

Submitted Dissertation work is dedicated to the study of morphology, biology and ecology of the Caspian and Mediterranean tortoises.  In the dissertation has been given new information on modern systematics of  tortoise fauna of Eastern Azerbaijan, their species composition and results of the morphometric studies carried out on the basis of the main exterior signs,  quantity, size and gender-age structure of turtle populations and it has been specified information about the daily and seasonal activity. Composition, proportion of Food objects used by tortoises, depending on the change of chapters, nutrition forms have been found.

It was established that the turtles of the Mediterranean Sea could be contained in open-air cages.

Hatched shell anomalies have been found in the Mediterranean sea turtles. It has been determined that anomalies associated with the variable climate in the mode of incubation of eggs and nutrition of young turtles. Empirical formulas designed to study the age of turtles have been proposed.  It has been determined that can be retrospectively assess the conditions of life of turtles based on the dynamics of growth and changes in the relief shell turtles.
