1st Azerbaijan-Russia joint international grant competition announced

Science Development Foundation taking into account the provisions of tripartite agreement, which signed on March 28, 2017, “On the cooperation among Science Development Foundation under President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, the Federal budget organization "Russian Fundamental Research Fund" (RFTF) and Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences (ANAS)”, has announced 1st Azerbaijan-Russia joint international grant competition.

Projects for participation in the competition were accepted from March 28 to June 29, 2017. The projects were presented through an innovative technology created by the Foundation for the Development of Science "e-GRANT" = "Electronic system for the management of grant projects". The results were discussed in a joint commission of the Foundation for the Development of Science and the Russian Foundation for Basic Research.

In the First Azerbaijan-Russia International Grant Competition, 20 winning projects were identified with a total funding of 2 million 630 thousand manat. The degree of success (in terms of the number of incoming and outgoing projects) was 28.76%, and this figure corresponds to international experience. When selecting projects based on the results of scientific expertise, preference was given to multidisciplinary research and applied research, as well as to projects presented on research topics, the implementation of which is planned by scientists and specialists of academic and educational structures, industry research institutes.

The winning projects will be implemented in the institutes of Physics, Mathematics and Mechanics, Information Technologies, Catalysis and Inorganic Chemistry, Chemistry of Additives, Petrochemical Processes, Geology and Geophysics, Oil and Gas, Botany, Physiology, Molecular Biology and Biotechnology, Chemistry, Archeology and Ethnography, Shamakhi Astrophysical Observatory, Batabat Astrophysical Observatory of Nakhchivan Branch, Republican Center of Seismological Service of ANAS, including National Academy of Aviation, Baku State University State University, Azerbaijan Medical University, Azerbaijan State University of Oil and Industry, Azerbaijan State Economic University, Azerbaijan Research and Design Institute of Power Engineering, Azerkosmos OJSC, State Agency for Alternative and Renewable Energy Sources, Center for High Technologies Research of the Ministry of Transport, communication and high technologies.

The Azerbaijani scientists will cooperate with the Institute of Physics and Technology of the Russian Academy of Sciences, the Main Observatory (Pulkovo), the Institute for Information Transmission Problems, the Institute of Physics of the Earth, the Institute of Plant Physiology, the Institute of Fundamental Problems of Biology, the Institute of Energy Systems of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences, the Institute of Geology of the Dagestan scientific Center of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Kazan Physic technical Institute of the Kazan Scientific Center of the Russian Academy of Sciences, St. Pterburg State University, Moscow State University, Ufa State Oil Technical University, Russian State University of Oil and Gas Institute of Mathematics of the Russian Peoples' Friendship University, the Bashkortostan State Pedagogical University and other institutions.

All winning projects are of a fundamentally applied nature. The number of winning projects includes 9 projects in physics and mathematics and technology, 4 projects in chemical sciences, 3 projects in earth sciences, 3 projects in biological, medical and agricultural sciences and 1 project in the humanities and social sciences.

The project implementation period is 24 months. The volume of project financing is 60-185 thousand manat. The winning projects will be financed from the second half of 2018.
