General Meeting of ANAS and a joint scientific session of the Collegium of AR Ministry of Health
ANAS main building hosted General Meeting of ANAS and a joint scientific session of the Collegium of AR Ministry of Health devoted to the theme "Human health is the basis of development of the Azerbaijani society" on 16 February.
The event was opened by the President of ANAS, academician Akif Alizadeh, noted that in recent years the joint activities of the Academy with various organizations, ministries and state committees have become a tradition and stressed that the purpose of these activities is the implementation of a more organized and coordinated activities aimed at fulfilling the tasks set by the state. The head of ANAS said that the scientific session will discuss in detail the current state of medical science and public health in Azerbaijan, determine the forthcoming tasks, and adopt a program of joint actions.
Noting that, one of the main priorities of the state policy is the development of public health in the republic, academician Akif Alizadeh said that, under the leadership of the head of state Ilham Aliyev and due to the care and humanistic initiatives of the First Vice President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Mehriban Aliyeva, important achievements aimed at protecting public health and improving the quality of health services: "Currently, the health system rovodyatsya successful reforms in the clinics their successful application are the latest innovations in medical science, technological innovation and modern methods of treatment, carried out fruitful work aimed at improving the professional skills of doctors. In these conditions, science faces special challenges. Science should be ahead of all these reforms, stimulating the future development of health care with new knowledge. One of the main goals of this session is to increase the role of science in these processes".
In his speech, the academician also spoke about the activities carried out in the field of molecular biology, biotechnology, genetic engineering and electronic medicine. The President of ANAS stressed the need to create joint laboratories in the field of biotechnology, stem cells and nuclear medicine.
Academician-secretary of the Division of Biological and Medical Sciences of ANAS, academician Ahliman Amiraslanov spoke at the scientific session on "Development, priorities and innovative prospects of medical science in Azerbaijan". Academician said that, in recent years healthcare, including the field of medical sciences and medical education, has reached the international level, favorable conditions have been created for the development of these spheres, as a result of which new opportunities for research have emerged.
Stressing that, the establishment of the Azerbaijan Academy of Sciences played an important role in the development of medical science, the academician added that the period of the national medical science is represented by such prominent scientists as Mirasadulla Mirkasimov, Mustafa bey Topchubashev and Aziz Aliyev. Along with the above-mentioned scientists, A. Amiraslanov also spoke about the scientific legacy of the organizers of the scientific school of surgery in Azerbaijan - Ivan Shirokogorov, Zarifa Aliyeva, Abdulla Garayev, Jalil Huseynov and other scientists. He noted that these individuals made a huge contribution to the development of science and health, combining the rich traditions of medical science in Azerbaijan and modern scientific knowledge and achievements.
In his report, the scientist spoke about the dynamics of the average age in the world, genomics, molecular biology, cellular technologies and other priority scientific directions, including the main fields of scientific activity that are carried out in the Oncological Clinic of the Azerbaijan Medical University, the study of peripheral nerves at the microscopic level, clinical and experimental research on Naphthalan oil and other natural sources, as well as on the achievements obtained in the course of studying a number of diseases. The scientist noted that, today a specific goal is to conduct scientific research in the field of public health protection aimed at creating innovative high technologies and their application in medical practice. He also listed such forward-looking goals as the focus of research resources in priority areas, the modernization of research centers, the creation of multidisciplinary research groups and the rational use of existing centers.
At the scientific session the rector of the Azerbaijan Medical University, Professor Geray Geraibeyli delivered a report on "Modern achievements of medical science in the field of public health", corresponding member of ANAS Nuru Bayramov on "The importance of research in the field of stem cells in clinical practice", the head of the department of the National Center of Oncology, Ph.D. in Medicine Fuad Novruzov on "The Role of Nuclear Medicine in the Diagnosis and Treatment of Cancer Patients and People with Heart Disease", Professor of the Azerbaijan State Institute of Advanced Medical Training after A.Aliyev, professor Nazim Gasymov on "Medico-social and economic aspects of non-communicable diseases", Professor Ulduz Gashimova on "The phenomenon of longevity in Azerbaijan: medical and biological and demographic aspects" in Azerbaijan", director of the National Center of Ophthalmology after academician Z.Aliyeva, corresponding member of ANAS Elmar Gasymov on "Dissemination and medico-social significance s ophthalmic pathologies common in Azerbaijan" and director of the Institute of Biophysics of ANAS, corresponding member of ANAS Oktay Gasimov on the subject of the significance of biophysics in medicine.
In conclusion, Minister of Health Oktay Shiraliyev stressed the importance of the joint event, which is held at the level of the leadership of the two organizations. He noted that, for its development and solving existing problems, healthcare constantly uses the achievements of various scientific branches. The minister said that, currently in the field of health in Azerbaijan, successful reforms are being carried out, to improve the level of scientific research, the material and technical base of medical institutions is being improved, unique scientific equipment is being used, and training activities are expanding in research institutes.
In his speech O.Shiraliyev also touched upon a number of urgent issues for the medical field, spoke about the implementation of state programs that are of great importance for the development of public health, the current state of practical public health, the activities of modern medical institutions and diagnostic centers put into operation in the regions.
At the scientific session it was decided to more fruitful cooperation between ANAS and the Ministry of Health in the future and implementation of joint activities aimed at further development of medical science and public health in the country.
