Report of Department of Biology and Medical Sciences
A meeting of the Presidium of ANAS was held at the Institute of Molecular Biology and Biotechnology on January 31.
Opening the meeting, academician Akif Alizade informed the participants of the event about the agenda.
Then the report of the Department of Biological and Medical Sciences (DBMS) of ANAS was listened.
Academician Ahliman Amiraslanov, academician-secretary of DBMS, speaking on scientific and scientific-organizational activities of the department in 2017, said that the activity of the department based on decrees of President Ilham Aliyev, decrees and orders of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Azerbaijan, strategies, resolutions of the General Assembly and Presidium of ANAS, and decisions of the President of ANAS.
Academician Ahliman Amiraslanov said that division institutes had 18 issues, 92 themes, 245 works and 468 phases in different directions. "6 of them and 468 stages have been completed; conducted 32 issues, 137 topics, 291 works and 615 phases, of which 48 works and 211 phases were completed."
According to the academician, last year scientific and research institutions of the Ministry of Health of the Azerbaijan Republic published 1089 and scientific institutes of the Ministry of Health of the Azerbaijan Republic 2753, agrarian institutions and Azerbaijan State Agrarian University 1,149 works. 11 textbooks were prepared with the participation of DBMS scholars.
The scientist noted that the invention of the sowing method of seeds of agricultural plants, which is the result of joint research by the National Academy of Aviation, was implemented in the farms of several administrative districts and Azersun Holding.
Speaking about the work done in the field of science and education last year, the academician noted that DBMS scientists have been closely involved in the preparation of highly qualified specialists engaged in scientific-pedagogical activity in a number of higher educational institutions of the republic.
Giving importance to the participation of departmental institutes in various national and international grant projects, the academician said that 37 research projects were funded by the Science Development Fund under the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan and some foreign funds.
International cooperation and grant programs were also discussed at the event. Academician Ahliman Amiraslanov underlined that the scientists had acquired new doctoral studies abroad, and that 34 employees of the unit have internships in foreign science centers. At the same time, more than 120 foreign academics have been acquainted with research conducted in division institutes.
International relations in the institutes of the division are focused on the implementation of more joint scientific and research projects and the organization of events and international expeditions, as well as the publication of joint scientific articles in authoritative magazines. It was noted that scientific cooperation was established with well-known universities of USA, Great Britain, France, Germany, Australia, Turkey, Russia, Ukraine, Kazakhstan, Georgia and Egypt,.
Academician-secretary briefed the participants on the activities of the International Laboratory of Computer Structures, Molecular Biotechnology, Molecular Bioengineering, Bionanotechnology under the leadership of world leading scientists at the Institute of Molecular Biology and Biotechnology, Biodiversity and Climate Change, Forest microbiology and pathology.
Let's note that in the reporting year, academician Ahliman Amiraslanov was awarded with "Sharaf" and academician Garib Mammadov "Shohrat" orders, correspondent members of ANAS - Novruz Guliyev and Alishir Musayev with "Progress" medal. Corresponding member of ANAS Sudeyif Imamverdiyev was awarded the personal scholarship of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
Academicians Ibrahim Guliyev, Nazim Mammadov, Irada Huseynova, correspondent members of ANAS - Zeynal Akperov, Ilham Shahmuradov, Nuru Bayramov, Alovsat Guliyev and others made presentations and suggestions.
The report was approved and the key findings were included in the report of the Presidium.
Then the Presidium decided to celebrate the 60th jubilee of correspondent member of ANAS Ilham Shahmuradov and conduct elections to the post of Director of the Institute of Archeology and Ethnography of ANAS.
