Employees of the Institute of Zoology of ANAS are complexly studying phytophagan pests which damage spruce plants and their entomophages

According to the Order "On Additional Measures to Strengthen State Support for the Development of Silk and Nutrition" signed by the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan on November 16, 2016, the Institute of Zoology of ANAS has started to study complexly the pests which damages spawning plants and their entomophages.

Employees of Applied Zoology Center of the Institute Irada Nuriyeva, Ilhama Safarova, Gulbaniz Nadirova, Vusala Narimanova conduct a research on "Bioecological peculiarities of venereal fruits and their entomophages in Azerbaijan", taking into account the fact that this area has not been studied so far.

For this purpose, researchers conducted expeditions to the villages Vandam in Gabala, Mughanli and Kemeloba villages in Zagatala region, examining hazelnut gardens, yard areas and walnut and chestnut trees on the roadside. During the whole vegetation stages of walnut, hazelnut and chestnut plants, the pests and their entomophages were identified. During the study, there were 3 species belonging to the Cerambycidae family, 2 species belonging to the Cicadellidae family, 2 species of "Curculionidae", 2 species belonging to Aphididae, one species belonging to Phaneropteridae, 2 species of "Miridae", one species belonging to Arctiinae family and others.

At the same time entomophages were recorded in 5 species belonging to Coccinellidae, 1 species belonging to Forficulidae, 1 species belonging to Chrysopidae and 11 species of "Arachnida".

There are 9 species of "Aphididae", "Pentatomidae", "Lymantriinae" and 9 species of "Arachnidaaid" and 6 species of entomophags belonging to "Coccinellidae". At present the collected materials are analyzed.

It should be noted that the group of vicious fruits belongs to walnuts (Júglans régia L.), hazelnut (Corylus maxima Mill), chestnut (Castanea sativa Mill.) and other plants. These plants are widely spread worldwide. Their fruits are of high nutritional value, and the wood (walnut) is used as a valuable material in the furniture industry.
