The vivarium, operating under the institute was established in 1980. The major research of the department is focused on providing departments and laboratories with laboratory animals for use in experiments, keeping and caring for experimental animals in the implementation of scientific research work of the institute. The department keeps and breeds laboratory animals - mice, rats, rabbits, and guinea pigs - in standard conditions and provides them with care and control in accordance with the requirements of veterinary regulations. Since foundation of the vivarium to the years of its operation, the institute's laboratories of helminthology, biochemical basis of parasite-host relations, protistology, herpetology are being used to perform experimental work. Laboratory staff conducts experiments in vitro, in situ and in vivo.

To facilitate the implementation of research on the basis of the vivarium and to monitor the implementation of the experiments in accordance with the sanitary rules;

To ensure the performance of the work on the maintenance and reproduction of laboratory animals;

To create the necessary conditions for keeping animals, approaching them humanist;

To develop new proposals for the maintenance, reproduction, breeding and treatment of certain species;

Organize the exchange of laboratory animals by establishing contacts with other organizations.
