Scientific report on new molecular biotechnology

At ANAS Presidium regular meeting was listened the report of ANAS corresponding member, Professor of the Akdeniz University, Turkey Tarlan Mammadov on "New molecular biotechnology providing synthesis of highly stable and functionally active vaccines, therapeutic proteins and industrial enzymes in plant leaves" on October 11.

Tarlan Mammadov noted that, the creation of vaccines, industrial and human enzymes, natural food supplements through DNA technology and organization of their production are the most important problems of the modern era. It was noted that, now the production of recombinant proteins for medical and industrial purposes is carried out by means of expression systems - bacteria, yeast fungi, insects and mammals. The scientist noted that, in recent years, being promising in terms of safety and economy, expression systems are the most used in production. T. Mammadov added that, in certain cases, when the system was not compatible with proteins of this type, it became necessary to address new molecular biotechnology for the elimination of problems.

Professor informed that, a more advanced technology was developed for this purpose. He noted that, for the first time was obtained the usage of this technology, a new generation of malaria vaccine. The reporter noted that the achieved results were granted a patent and were published in the authoritative magazine "PLOS ONE". Further, the scientist stressed that this technology creates ample opportunities for the synthesis of various recombinant and therapeutic proteins, vaccines, natural food additives, as well as industrial enzymes. Correspondent member of ANAS said that, production and sale of recombinant proteins in the country will bring great economic benefits. He also added that the production within the country of valuable medicinal products for humans and animals will reduce the country's dependence on imports of these products.

Further, was discussed the report by the Presidium. In their speech, academicians Dilgam Tagiyev, Ahliman Amiraslanov, Nazim Mammadov, Irada Huseynova and corresponding member of ANAS Oktay Gasimov positively evaluated the report and put forward their proposals.

In conclusion, Department of Biological and Medical Sciences was instructed to provide the Presidium with a valid reference after discussing the possibilities for conducting research in Azerbaijan on the synthesis of recombinant proteins, including vaccines, therapeutic proteins, natural food additives and industrial enzymes. Also, with the involvement of the Office of Administration of ANAS and specialists in the relevant field, the economic efficiency of the production of recombinant proteins and valuable drugs in the High Technology Park of ANAS should be justified.
