ANAS hosted an event on Sustainable Development Goals

International scientific conference "Transformation of our world: the role of science in the integration and implementation of Sustainable Development Goals" will be held in Baku on November 24-25, 2017.

The conference will be held with the support of UN Global Compact Project, Azerbaijan Trade Union Confederation and Azersu OJSC.

For this purpose, a meeting of the Organizing Committee of the conference was held at the Institute of Philosophy of ANAS.

Chairman of the Free Trade Union of ANAS, Doctor of Law, Professor Habil Gurbanov said that Azerbaijan is a state with a strong economy, a stable political, legal and social protection system, an updated infrastructure, integrated into international organizations. He noted that in recent years, many state programs have been adopted and successfully implemented.

Speaking about the importance of holding the event in Azerbaijan, H.Gurbanov said that the conference will focus on the role of innovation and technology in fundamental sustainable development, science and education, the role of ICT in Sustainable Development, and other issues.

Khayala Mammadova, Chairperson of the Organizing Committee of the conference, said that the Sustainable Development Goals for 2016-2030 were adopted at the United Nations Sustainable Development Summit, held on September 25-27, 2015. The main goal of sustainable development is to eliminate poverty and to ensure the protection of the planet. Sustainable Development Goal is composed of 17 targets covering climate change, economic inequality, innovation, sustainable consumption, peace and justice, she emphasized.

Mammadova noted that representatives of local and foreign organizations operating in this field will attend the conference to be held in Baku, and discussions will be held on the challenges facing Sustainable Development Goals.

Representative of the National Coordinating Council for Sustainable Development of the Republic of Azerbaijan Elmir Ibrahimov, representative of Azersu OJSC Taliy Ismayilova and others talked about reforms in food security, clean water and climate change in our country.
